alice ann pazzaglia
food editor

I have both Italian and American citizenships and one foot in each culture so that I don't fit perfectly anywhere. I have traveled extensively and now I live happily in San Francisco where I work and I am a neighborhood activist helping to create social policy for my neighborhood. I am also an imaginative garden designer and enjoy listening to and collecting Jazz and Baroque music. I'm owned by a 6-year old Smoke Asian Shorthair cat named Fabio.

I have been cooking Northern Italian food from the Lombardy Region for my family all my life and I am happy to share recipes with you. I "cook by the elbow" which means I hardly ever measure anything and I often change the recipe according to the available ingredients and my mood. This means you can be creative with the recipes I give you. All Italian cooking uses only fresh ingredients of the season so it varies according to the time of year. Each region has distinctive cooking styles and recipes. I receive lots of email requesting recipes from regions other than Lombardy . In response to this, Tavola will now have a mixture of recipes from various regions in Italy. When possible, the origin will be specified.

Editor's Note: Alice Ann Pazzaglia passed away May 2, 2002 but her recipe collection and her engaging stories are immortal.
