molise
(visit more italian regions)

Part of the Abruzzo region until 1963, Molise is the youngest Italian region. It borders on Campania, Puglia, Abruzzo, and Lazio and is divided into two provinces: Campobasso and Isernia. Isolated mountains and a chaotic array of hills have made communications difficult and resulted in a profound state of isolation in this sweet, safe, and quiet land. Even Campobasso, the administrative center, boasts less than 50,000 inhabitants. Subsistence farming, rather than tourism, remains the region's principal economic strength. Nevertheless, some holiday resorts have sprouted and a number of beautiful beaches line the Adriatic coast side.

experience molise cuisine
